Important Invisalign Facts

If your teeth are misaligned and you’d like to have them straightened, having concerns about the impact that traditional metal orthodontics will have on your smile is understandable. But Invisalign clear braces provided by the Invisalign Dentist Manhattan Beach quickly straightens your teeth and is virtually invisible. Better yet, Invisalign braces contain absolutely no metal to irritate tender mouth tissue.

How does Invisalign work?

The Invisalign treatment system uses of a series of flexible plastic trays that are custom-made to gently correct the alignment of your teeth. Once treatment begins, we will provide you with a series of custom-made aligners.

Approximately every two weeks you will progress to the next set of aligners in the series. As treatment continues, your teeth are gently shifted into the proper position to ensure a perfect bite.

One important advantage for many patients is the fact that Invisalign trays are completely removable for eating, brushing and flossing, and on special occasions. Otherwise, it is important to wear them consistently to get the full benefit of the shorter treatment time Invisalign offers when compared to conventional braces.

What problems does Invisalign correct?

Invisalign treatment corrects the same common alignment and aesthetic problems as conventional metal braces:

  • Overcrowding
  • Large, uneven gaps between teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite

It is important that alignment issues be corrected by your Invisalign dentist as soon as possible. Conditions like overcrowding and gaps between teeth can lead to much more serious oral health issues like jaw pain, TMJ and bone erosion.

Periodontal disease is of special concern as we learn more about the connection that has been established between oral health and serious health issues like heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke and diabetes.
