Keep Your Smile Intact

Root canal therapy can be used to save an infected or damaged tooth from extraction. While it’s a very common procedure, it’s one that patients often fear. At MDCS, root canals are quicker, easier and as pain-free possible thanks to our modern techniques and technology. In fact, they’re comparable to receiving a conventional filling. We also offer sedation dentistry to help patients break through their anxiety and feel completely relaxed while they get the care they need.

What is a
Root Canal?

The inside of each tooth is filled with soft tissue known as pulp, which is made up of blood vessels and nerves and serves to keep the tooth alive. Cavities, injuries or trauma, cracks or repeated dental work can compromise the tooth’s outer layers and leave the pulp vulnerable to infection. Root canal therapy involves clearing away the infected or damaged tissue, bacteria and any decay, cleansing the chamber and root canal, filling the space and then sealing the tooth to prevent any further damage. Typically, we’ll place a crown over the tooth to protect it and restore your smile. In the vast majority of cases, with good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, treatment will last a lifetime.

Signs a Root Canal Might be Necessary:
  • Tooth pain (mild to severe)
  • An abscess on the gums
  • Swelling or tenderness around the tooth
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Tooth discoloration or darkening
